Lockdown got you feeling a little lazy? You’re not alone. Those late-night Tiger King marathons and morning sleep-ins, plus daylight savings have our body clocks a little confused. Boost the energy in your bubble with these helpful tips.
Establish a new routine.
Our bodies love routines! While it’s tempting to sleep in a little longer, interrupting our circadian rhythms can disrupt the body and make you more susceptible to tiredness. Try to get your body to a new routine from waking up to sleeping at night.
Exercise your body, and your mind.
Hands up who had every intention of at-home workouts but find themselves drifting from screen to screen. Dust off that active wear, because physical activity is vital to boosting energy. It also promotes happiness by releasing endorphins! Keep your energy moving throughout the day by getting up every hour and doing some light stretches, walking around the house or going to make a cup of tea.
Don’t forget the command centre of a happy healthy body is your brain. Keep it stimulated with different activities like reading, listening to music, cooking or learning a new skill.
Restrict your news intake and manage feelings of stress
It’s important to keep up to date with what’s going on but try and moderate how much you're checking the news to help maintain your emotional balance. Stress can trigger our brains to release cortisol and make our bodies go into defence-mode, which saps our energy and motivation.
Eat for energy
It’s tempting to reach for caffeine to get that boost but fuelling your body with the right foods is the key. Some energy boosting favourites include:
Bananas – rich in potassium and healthy carbohydrates
Almonds – full of energy boosting nutrients like Vitamin E, Magnesium and Calcium
Super Seeds like chia, pumpkin seeds and hemp seeds – for essential omega-3 fatty acids, iron, magnesium and calcium
Kumara - is particularly high in fibre, protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron and calcium. It can help stabilise your blood sugar levels and keep your energy levels high throughout the day.
Leafy Greens -filled with rejuvenating vitamins, nutritious minerals, revitalizing enzymes, easily digestible plant-based protein and filling fibre.
